The basic differences between cement tiles and glazed tiles

Nowadays, cement and glazed tile are two of the most popular home decoration materials. They are both used for decoration such as flooring, tiling the wall…, but there are differences between them with their own characteristics. Cement tiles are handmade materials, and it is older than glazed tile. First appeared in the 19th century in France, cement tiles became popular in Europe, and then spread to Latin American countries. This big whirlwind blew in Asia and Vietnam is obviously not outside the whirlwind.

Cement tile is known as the queen of decorative materials in those days by many advantages. Cement tile is produced completely manually, so it does not cause any

negative impact on environment. Due to this reason, it is considered as environmental friendly material. Moreover, life span of this product is also quite long. In fact, it can be definitely ascertained when a large number of architectural buildings used cement tiles such as castles, palaces, temple … are still in existence today.
At the end of the twentieth century, glazed tile came out and made a spectacular replacement, and cement tiles gradually disappeared. Glazed tiles were brought into the world after new advances in tile production technology as well as achievements in machinery have helped people more leisurely in process of making a glazed tile.

Characteristics of strength and ability to absorb water

Cement tile is decorative material with great diversity of colorful patterns and designs. On the other hand, glazed tile is produced with enamel covering the bone of tile.
Depending on design, enamel can be rough, shaggy, glossy or translucent. Due to this reason, glazed tiles are divided into two types: glossy glazed tiles and  translucent glazed tiles.
Glazed tiles have very high strength; however, its water absorption is quite low. Glazed tile is known as anti-slip, anti-friction material.

Today, some parts of cement tile production process are supported from advanced machine technology. Still based on the spirit of traditional cement tiles, modern cement tiles, also known as ceramic tiles, have many alternatives to suit the interior decoration needs in modern life.

Ceramic tiles, which are similar to glazed tiles, are also divided into two types: dry ceramic tiles and semi-dry ceramic tiles. Compared to traditional cement tile, ceramic tiles still retain the classical patterns that are elegant and delicate.

Purpose

Two main functions of glazed tiles, similar to cement tiles, are flooring and tiling wall. In addition, glazed tiles are also used in tiling the staircase, walkway or swimming pool. Purposes of cement tile are not beyond flooring and wall tiling. Additionally, during recent years, cement tiles is also used for exterior design, garden, corridor.
